About Rossendale Valley Energy & Community Energy Rossendale
Rossendale Valley Energy is a community energy group founded in 2022, with the help of local community members and support from Valley Heritage. We are a community-led, not-for-profit group unique to the Rossendale Valley.
We aim to help Rossendale live in warmer, healthier homes without extra cost and improve our fuel security in a fair and affordable way.
Our initial funding came via the UK Community Renewal Fund, and we now have funding for projects which are designed to help local communities grow and become more resilient and sustainable.
What is a community energy group?
We aim to bring local people together to reduce energy use, look at initiatives to deliver green energy, and help make energy more affordable.
There are now over one hundred community energy groups across the country using collective action to reduce, manage or generate energy. Energy groups are locally led to best suit the needs of local people.
What we want to achieve
- Produce a community led energy plan for the Rossendale Valley.
- Help people reduce their home carbon use and keep energy prices low.
- Plan how we can start to transition from fossil fuels to renewable power.
- Increase community resilience to changes in the way energy is consumed.
Why are we doing this?
It’s no secret that we, as a nation need to drastically change the way we consume fossil fuels. Add in the instability of the current energy market and the effect this is having on people’s pockets. We need to seek new ways to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels for the sake of the planet, and our pockets.
Although the Government has a strategy for its UK 2050 net zero target, there is a lack of clarity on how this applies to residential energy and there is no clear strategy for the decarbonising of our homes by 2050. Community energy groups are decentralising the approach to decarbonisation by putting power into the hands of local people.
How can you get involved?
